Central Bank Intervention

The Central Bank may sometimes intervene in the foreign exchange market by selling or buying its currency when the actual exchange rate is overvalued, thus jeopardizing its competitiveness. Alternatively, if the exchange rate is undervalued, it leads to unsustainable growth and inflation. Additional reasons include adequate liquidity, accumulation of reserves, and controlled exchange rate volatility.
