What's up this week in the markets? 📅 Let's take a look!
Post-Labor day in the U.S. (Tuesday)
Not exactly an event, but a notable day. As the U.S. markets are closed on Monday due to the Labor day celebration, increased activity may be observed tomorrow. Look out for major “market-average” assets, such as SPX500.
BAC interest rate decision (Wednesday)
A day before ECB's event on Thursday, the Bank of Canada will also have an announcement on interest rates in the country. CAD/USD might be affected if any outstanding figures or information are shared.
GameStop earning report (Wednesday)
The company will release its earnings report this Wednesday. GME.N is up 74% over the past six months and remains up 1,011% on the year after its dramatic spike in January of this year when investors executed a “short squeeze”.
ECB interest rate decision (Thursday)
The European Central Bank holds its next monetary policy meeting on September 9 and is widely expected to discuss the future of its asset purchase program launched in reaction to the pandemic's economic fallout. EUR/USD might be affected during and after the speech.
Oracle earnings report (Thursday)
Another company to report its Q2 earnings is Oracle Corp. This year, ORCL.N is up 39% to around $90 per share. Wall Street is expecting Oracle to report EPS of 97 cents and revenue of $9.77 billion for Q2. Look out for volatility if the targets are not met or significantly exceeded.
