Average Directional Movement Index (ADX)

Developed by Welles Wilder. A technical analysis indicator to determine the presence of price trends. It consists of three lines: ADX, +DI and -DI. An ADX reading above 25 signifies a trending market. The direction of the trend is indicated by the crossing of the +Di and the -DI. When +DI crosses above the -DI the trend is up, and a Buy signal is generated. When +DI crosses below the -DI the trend is down, and a Sell signal is in place.
